Age Concern is very grateful to Paul Desforges for undertaking a sponsored 225Km cross-Pennine cycle ride from Whitehaven to Tynemouth over three days in early May to raise funds for the charity. Over 100 sponsors backed Paul to the tune of 1,230€ – a fantastic achievement.
Eileen Dry, President of Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, received the cheque from Paul last week. Paul did not ride alone but was supported by Mark, Peter, and Alan who made sure he rode to the end, and none of them needed the services of the charity when their goal was reached.
Thanks go to Owen Keogh and his staff at The Irish Fiddler in Estepona port (of which Paul is a regular patron) who actively promoted the event and assisted in collecting money from sponsors. Mary and Dermot at Carusos, and Dr. Peter Furness are also due thanks for their support and collecting skills. Finally John Doherty gave his support and assistance in the initial liason to set the whole project up.
All of the money raised has gone to support the work of the charity’s volunteers who work with older people in the community. Thanks to all involved!
