Sally with her supporters.

On Saturday a small but intrepid group of supporters took to their cars for the journey to Seville to watch SALLY BAUM complete her historic Sponsored Skydive for Age Concern Fuengirola y Mijas.

We had decided to make a weekend of it as some of the group had not met before. Over dinner at the small hotel we were all soon getting on well and looking forward to Sunday´s adventure.

Sunday morning was cold but with clear blue skies and very little wind. When we arrived at the Aerodrome (after navigating miles of potholed farm tracks) we were greeted by genuinely helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

After a tense wait as the excitement grew it was time for Sally to be suited up. Her instructor, Robert, was kind and supportive and quickly put her at her ease. After all it´s not everyday you tandem jump from 15000 feet. Sally was excited rather than nervous and raring to go. 15000 feet is the highest you can do a Skydive jump in Europe! We had arranged for a video to be taken and were introduced to Manolo whose job was to faithfully record the event.

Sally’s in the plane!

Finally, it was time to set off. Dressed in her red flying suit and without the benefit of heels Sally looked small and a little vulnerable but her smile gave us all confidence that she would be fine. A few minutes later the plane painted in camouflage green and black, possibly to lend an extra bit of drama, was up and away. Sally and Robert were the last to jump and made a very colourful descent with their red with white stripe parachute.

Sally about to leave a perfectly good plane!!

Temperatures on jumping at 15000 feet were minus 25 degrees warming as the pair swirled and then floated to earth.

Sally’s actually done it, she’s jumped, or been pushed.

Robert wanted Sally to have the best experience and gave her the toggles to control the parachute. It was an amazing sight and soon afterwards they landed safely.

At last Sally’s safely on the ground.

Sally was grinning and in high spirits knowing that  not only did she have the support and love from friends and family but that donations were continuing to be made.

Our brave Grandmother, 62 , did an incredible job and we are all so proud of her achievement. To those who have already donated we send our heart felt thanks. For those who have not donated yet – don´t worry. We have a Just Giving page as well as our own web page where you can donate by Paypal and there is no closing date.

All donations large and small will help us to continue to provide our clients with advice, help, support and friendship. If you would like us to help you or a loved one or if you wish to help us by becoming a Volunteer from as little as two hours a week please call our Lifeline on 652537615 or pop into a drop in centre closest to you in Los Boliches, La Cala or Mijas Pueblo.
