How we help
Age Concern España cares about all older people and also, through ACASA, those with a military connection who have the right to seek assistance from UK military charities.
The Age Concern Organisations (ACOs) provide services to those who are legally resident in Spain i.e. residents and tourists. Each ACO aims to meet the needs of the people in its own area, which may differ from those of other ACOs. Please contact your local ACO for details of services in your area. If there is no ACO in your area, please contact ACASA. All our services are run by teams of volunteers. Please contact your local Age Concern for details of services in your area or if you wish to make a donation or become a volunteer.
Our work – nationally
ACASA (Age Concern Acción Social y Asistencial), Age Concern’s National Casework Service, helps older British nationals and, through its Partnership with SSAFA Forces Help, those with a UK military background of any age, to address their problems.
- We advise older people on how to access Spanish/UK benefits to which they may be entitled.
- We provide social contact and support, subject to the availability of volunteers.
- We assist beneficiaries to seek financial support from appropriate UK charities
- We provide help and advice on living in Spain and/or returning to the UK
- We provide INFOSHEETS on a wide range of issues affecting older people in Spain.
Our work – locally
LIFELINE
The aim of the LIFELINE service is to help beneficiaries to resolve their problems and also to provide friendship and support for older people who are lonely or isolated. Visits can take place in the older person’s home‚ in residential homes or in hospitals. This service is dependant on the availability of volunteers.
CARE EQUIPMENT
The local Age Concern Organisations have care equipment which can be borrowed on a short-term basis. A deposit is required and a donation will be suggested which will be used to cover the costs of maintaining the equipment to a good standard, and replacing when necessary.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
The local Age Concern Organisations arrange a number of different social activities to bring people together. These may include day trips‚ lunches and social activities such as bingo. They also have a number of exciting fund-raising activities to raise money to fund the vital services that are provided. Please check with your local ACO regarding activities etc.
CHARITY SHOPS
Three of the local Age Concern Organisations have charity shops that are dependant on donated goods i.e. Age Concern Costa Blanca Sur, Age Concern Estepona y Manilva, and Age Concern Menorca.
Only items that are clean and in good condition are accepted. If you wish to donate larger items please contact the relevant Age Concern Organisation first to ascertain whether they have the facilities to accept.
All money raised in these shops is used by the local Age Concern Organisation to deliver services to older people in its area.
